about me
I am an Adult Daughter of an Alcoholic father. Growing up I felt out of control in a home affected by alcoholism. That environment shaped my life and the way I related to others. I don't share my story to put my father down. I know he carried a lot of pain, but his struggle with alcoholism also caused a lot of pain for me.
For a long time I carried shame and anxiety about my childhood. I learned early to keep secrets and to hide what was happening behind closed doors. As a teenager, I was so busy trying to make things better at home that I failed to see how much help I needed myself. Acknowledging my past hasn't been easy, but accepting it has brought me a sense of freedom. Through my memoir, The Art of Bristle, I hope to reach others especially young adults, who grew up around alcoholism and those living with it now. I want them to know they're not alone, and that help does exist. Finding my voice has been a big part of my journey and by sharing my story I hope others find their courage as well.
